WNS Committee, 2021-22

Tyra Oseng-Rees, Chair

I am from the North of Norway and arrived in Swansea in 2003 to study. I immediately fell in love with Wales, and for a strange reason felt very much at home. I later discovered the connections between Norway and Wales and realised the fondness Welsh people have for Norway. I am now settled with a family and a dog that carries the name of a Norwegian mountain.

thomas Husøy, treasurer

I am a PhD student in Ancient History at Swansea University and have lived in the UK since 2011. I have a BA from Swansea and a Master from Edinburgh. I am from Møre og Romsdal in Norway and currently live with my finance and cat in Swansea. I have previous experience as a treasurer in both the Hiking Club and the Scandinavian Society during my undergraduate degree in Swansea. I am now looking forward to the role of treasurer in the WNS.

Justin Andersen, Secretary

I am Cardiff born, but for the last twenty-three years have lived with my wife in Swansea. So why the Welsh Norwegian Society? My mother was a Cardiff girl who met, and married, a Norwegian merchant navy officer. He was at sea when Norway was invaded and, like most ships, his sailed for allied ports.  In late 1945 I was baptised in the Norwegian Seamens’ Church by Pastor Rassmussen.

Erin, committee member

Hello, my name is Erin, I am from Wales and have Norwegian descent on my mother’s side of the family, who were originally from Trondheim, but are now spread between Oslo and Namsos. I look forward to the society’s future events and maintaining the special link between Wales and Norway.

Johan, Members Secretary

I live in Swansea with my family and Frida the dog. I work for the Swansea Bay University Health Board as Arts on Prescription Manager and am an experienced freelance photographer. My hobbies are baking, surfing, and hiking.

Marit, Committee membeR

I moved from Norway to Wales in 2000 with my mother and two brothers, to live with my Welsh stepdad. The move was tough, and I struggled with homesickness. I therefore decided to make a “little Norway” in Wales and holding onto as many of our weird and wonderful traditions as possible. Finding a small Norwegian community in the Norwegian Church in Cardiff has been a great comfort during the hardest times of homesickness and I look forward to getting more involved.

Craig, Committee member

My name is Craig, born and bred in South Wales but with a huge interest in both Norwegian and Welsh history and culture. This has led me to support the WNS and join the committee to help its mission in keeping strong friendship and links between the two nations and importantly, the iconic arts centre church that sits in the bay.
